Words of Wisdomby Pastor Michael T. Keenan June 2006 Building Godly Homes - Part III
If we are going to enjoy God's blessings in our homes, we must live and guide our homes based on Bible precepts. Husbands and wives must be in Absolute agreement on some very important issues. I. Authority - see May '06 article. II. Doctrine The Bible tells us in II Cor. 6:14 not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers. This certainly applies to Marriage. But let me take it a step further. Deut. 22:10 commands not to plow with an ox and an ass together. Any old time farmer could explain the practicality of this verse if you don't understand it. If you are an Independent Bible Believing Baptist, it would be an unequal yoke for you to marry a Charismatic, or a Presbyterian, etc. even if they professed to be saved. It'd be like an ox and ass trying to yoke up and plow together, it "just wouldn't work." Your Doctrine is different, your final authority would be different and thus conflict and confusion. Eph. 4 tells us there's one body, one LORD, one faith. For a home to have God's blessings there must be the unity of the Holy Spirit and the doctrine of the married couple must be the Bible doctrine of Truth which the married couple must be the Bible doctrine of Truth which the Spirit of Truth will guide us into. This also points out the importance of a family being in the church that God wants them in, and being faithful in that church till Jesus comes. A good Bible Believing church is one of the best friends a family can have. It will re-enforce the Bible as the final authority and parent's responsibilities in married life and bringing up children for the Lord. The church is God's help and blessing to folks who desire God's help and blessing. Instead of a Judge settling disputes between married couples, it's time to allow the Word of God to settle them. There's a great need for husbands and wives to humbly submit to the Lord and His Book for the answers to life's many questions and problems. Young Christians contemplating marriage, who you marry is the second most important decision you'll make in life. It's be wise to let the Lord make that decision and trust Him to do better than you ever could. Prov. 3:5&6 (To be continued) |
